__My very beautiful & talented friend Douglas Dare is playing at Freie Volksbühne Berlin, Berlin tonight, I will be there, check it out__ !

Last friday at about 4.30pm in the day, a few days more than a week ago, a guy who looked completely normal & like he was in his early 30’s came running up behind me in the street, latched onto me by my upper-arm & held me by force while he sexually harassed me. It happened in the middle of the day, on the street by where I live, in what is considered one of Berlins safest areas. My guard was down & it took me completely by surprise. He physically held onto me twice after I got loose & said that because he had seen me in the street&he had taking a liking to me, he was entitled to me & I was to go with him. The rest of what he said to me is not really appropriate to write in a public space.

Though this was not my first experience with street harassment its the first time where I have experienced being held by force. Though I got away & the bruises from where he held onto me disappeared after a couple of days, it has taken me nearly a week to feel like myself again. I reported it to the police & I have had 2 very different experiences giving a statement, one where the police were very kind & one where the female police officer who called me in again before even taking my statement or knowing anything about the case harshly informed me that if I was lying about this, I would go to jail. Perhaps this is routine, but the way it was said completely set the tone of the rest of the interview & I got a taste of what it might feel like for someone who has actually been molested to feel like they are not being believed. This further made the whole experience worse for me & I found myself regretting that I’d reported it to the police in the first place. Which I believe it should be, as if this guy does it once, he probably can do it again.

Why am I vocalising this in a public space? Because we all need to know & be aware of that these things happen & that it has an impact on the people it happens to. And that girls, who experience this things or worse, always, ALWAYS, deserve to be treated with respect and support.
It is easy to dismiss these guys as crazy. Yet crazy or not, they are out there & these things happen. To your female friends, your sisters, your girlfriends.

Are we selling a society were some men are raised to believe they are entitled to women’s bodies? If we are’nt then why does sexual harassment happen on a daily basis?

__Let me phrase this, cuz it pisses me off.
Off course this isnt just Rihanna’s fault, its a product of our culture & media where its the trade for pop culture to have no spine or solidarity & take other peoples work & pass it off as their own for own personal gain & profit.
Nobody cares about Nikki Nicki Minaj using Malcolm X as a prop to sell her single ‘Lookin ass niggah’, or that JAY Z raps about being Ike Turner & beating Tina Turner as it was something cool to put on Beyonce’s “feminist record”. People like Gaga & Miley Cyrus dont stop using Terry Richardson to further their names despite the many claims of sexual exploitation made by freaking young! models towards him. People still praise R Kelly for his new album Black Panties, though there is an endless string of lawsuits & evidence of him using his money&fame to sexually exploit&wreck the lives of strings of young, & we’re talking really young, like more than underage young girls here. People like Jay, Bey, Minaj, Gaga & Cyrus, we know they have worked hard for their fame.
Yet with the fame, comes money, power & privilege. A privilege that puts them in a position to be able to choose who to support & what to stand for. Because lets face it, they are all past the point where they are dependent on making money anymore. They have hard solid cash. To pretend otherwise would be an insult. They have a responsibility for how they use & to who they lend their name & game.  Like equally Rihanna could have chosen to acknowledge the origins behind her “GhettoGoth”-look & the people who have built that brand from the ground of with their own hard-earned money, blood, sweat & hard work.
One would think, that having the freedom that financial independence brings & the possibility to choose for whom & what to stand for would make the most spoken about people of our time want to make a conscious choice, utilising & recognising their influence. Instead of shitting all over basic aspects of respecting the value of other human beings, the recognition of that fronting sexual violence and violence against women is neither cool, nor acceptable & that the failure of validating this is one of the biggest problems of our time, & that simply, for the love of god, you dont make a promotional prop of a man who died for his cause.
In our time we see a lot of these celebrities, who wish to be associated with & use other peoples values & authenticity, but do we see them live by them or stand by the causes that aquired it in the first place?  Popular celebrity culture may be the medium of our era, but if we fail to recognise our grassroots & the true driving forces of our time, the people who fight for a cause and not just for profit they might just stop.
If we fail to give them the much deserved & much needed recognition &  validation of the people who do put their heart into creating & builduing something new, and something with heart,
We will all soon be left drowning in a world ruled by pop culture where the less inhibitions you have of what you are willing to do for fame and money is everyones number one favourite ace card.
Desperately trying to stay a float while we sink deeper in the depressing slurr of  Kardashian’s, Terry Richardson’s & Paradise Hotel spawn.

Or wait, we already are.
